With the means of reduction

We live in a time that is characterised by hectic, stress, noise and speed.

All the more Peter F. Wingerter, as a photographer, takes the time to escape this. He makes pictures that are not realistic, they make something visible that lies deep below the actual surface. Thus pictures are created that cannot be seen with the naked eye. These pictures are created on the spot.

THE ART OF LEAVE OUT

His art is minimalist, sometimes almost tilts into the abstract. To make a further reduction into the minimalist, his works are mostly in black and white. Few pictures are then only in soft, coloured tones, as only light can unfold colours. This omission of colours reinforces the contours of the motif and also its inner meaning.

Everything is then reduced to the essential. Shapes, lines and contours are the phenomena that fascinate again and again. This is why architecture, including that in nature, plays a particularly important role in his work: Bridges, footbridges or rock formations, all these immovable wonders.

Especially during his annual visits to Venice he finds peace and balance. Since he only visits the city in winter, he quickly finds access to his projects.

Mostly his pictures have no horizon, no end. They radiate a great silence and calmness, an endless peace and vastness. He wants eternity to shine through his pictures, into our hectic little now-world. The only means to an end are camera, tripod and filter.

AND WHERE IS THE HUMAN BEING ?

With his eyes he puts the subject through its paces. Does it have the desired precision in form and line ? Is it simple enough, does he feel infinity in it?

He concentrates on the quiet scenes, on scenes where light plays the most important role. People therefore rarely appear in his art. Once he grants you entrance, it is usually abstract and motionless. Like statues. Even Venice is deserted: a few gondolas, morning light, the shiny, damp cobblestones - peace, space and timeless aesthetics are the most important things in his art.
